Back to school…and somewhere in there another summer just ended.
You didn't notice the last day of it.
We never do.
Here's the math nobody wants to face:
If you’re lucky, you get 18 summers with your kids.
That's it.
18 summers.
Because once they leave the house... the visits get shorter, the seasons change quicker, and the version of "together" changes forever.
If your kid is 8...
you might have 10 left.
If your kid is 13...
you might have 5.
Let that land…
FIVE.
You've probably worked longer than that at one job.
You've probably waited longer than that for a promotion.
And here's the part that should sting a little...
Most people will spend more hours this year staring at their phone, than staring at their kids' faces while they're still small enough to want you to.
Jacob worked 7 years for Rachel, Genesis 29:20 says "they seemed to him but a few days, because of the love he had for her."
Love makes time move different.
It makes you forget how little of it you actually have.
We’re not promised the 2nd half of this thing called life.
You're only promised today.
So this back to school season... don't just buy the supplies and send them out the door.
Sit at the edge of the bed tonight.
Ask about their day like you actually want to know, and put the phone somewhere you can't reach.
Because one day you'll have all the time in the world...
and none of the people you wanted to spend it with.
You don't get these summers back.
You just get to decide what you did with the ones you had.
Choose well.
