Inconveniences. A stranger who takes too long. A conversation that wasn’t on your calendar. A detour you didn’t plan for.

And most men miss them, not because they’re bad men, but because they’re busy men.

Heads down. Locked in. Moving fast.

I’ve been that man. So consumed with building the vision that I walked right past the person the vision was built for. That’s the trap no one warns you about. You can be so focused on your assignment that you become unavailable for it.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

God doesn’t always call you to a stage. Sometimes He calls you to a parking lot. A barbershop. A sideline at your kid’s game. A moment with a man who looks fine but is one conversation away from quitting.

The question isn’t just WHAT God is calling you to… It’s WHO He’s placing in front of you. Right now, today, in the middle of your ordinary.

Are you present enough to notice?

Or are you so locked into the future that you’re unavailable in the present?

Missed opportunities don’t always feel like loss. Sometimes they just feel like a normal Monday.

And that’s what makes them so dangerous.

The man you were supposed to speak life into… you passed him.

The conversation that could have changed everything… you were on your phone.

The door God opened… you walked right by it because it didn’t look like what you expected.

Availability is a spiritual discipline. Slow down. Look up. Stay open.

Because God is still writing the story, and some of the most important chapters won’t announce themselves.

They’ll just show up. And He’ll be watching to see if you’re awake enough to answer.

— Angelo

angeloliloc.com is a reader-supported publication. Sabbath as Warfare

Rest was never weakness. It was God’s battle strategy. He built it into creation on the seventh day to show that His power holds the world together, not ours. When I resisted rest, it was usually because I thought everything depended on me. Proving I was still living and thinking like a slave, not a son. Sabbath is the weekly declaration: “Jesus, You are God and I am not.”

2. Rest = Alignment, Not Escape

Hebrews 4 talks about a “Sabbath rest for the people of God.” It isn’t about Sunday naps, it’s a spiritual posture. To “enter His rest” is to step out of striving, self salvation, and constant proving, and step into alignment with His finished and complete work. Rest is when my soul finally stops performing and simply receives.

3. Rest Requires Trust

Israel failed to REST in the wilderness not because they were tired but because they didn’t trust God to provide. That’s the human story, unbelief leads to restless striving. Faith leads to rest. When I found myself exhausted, it wasn’t just because of workload, it was because I was carrying burdens I didn’t trust God with.

4. Rest as Rhythm

Biblical rest isn’t occasional. It’s rhythm. Work six, rest one. Pour out, get filled. Without it, even good things (business, leadership, fatherhood) burn you out. With it, you multiply because you’re working from overflow, not depletion.

5. Rest as Identity

True rest comes when you know you’re already chosen, already loved. That’s why Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He wasn’t offering a nap. He was offering an identity in Him, instead of performance in me.

REST isn’t what you do at the end of the week when you’re drained, it’s the place you live from, every day.

Rest is the starting point, not the finish line.

Rest… it’s not the absence of work, it’s the presence of trust.
<div He’s the kind of guy who’s built everything from scratch because on paper, he’s winning.

He looked me in the eye and said, “Is it always going to feel this heavy?”

That question doesn’t come from weakness. It comes from a place most men know too well. The quiet pressure that never really lets up, the meetings, the expectations, the fear of dropping the ball at home.

Here’s the truth: The weight isn’t going anywhere.

But you get stronger.
